History of US Anti-Slave Law
● 1808 - US act prohibiting importation of slaves
● 1865 - 13th amendment preventing holding of slaves
● 1948 - peonage (debt slavery) outlawed on a federal level
○ Sharecroppers
○ Immigrants brought to the south from the north to build railroads, charged for
their transportation
○ Convicts forced to work in field during harvest
