Importance of small group communication: groups are a fact of life. Group hate is the distaste and aversion that many people feel toward working in groups. Primary groups provide members with a sense of belonging and affection. A group can produce more innovative ideas that individuals working alone (referred to as social facilitation) Small group work can promote critical thinking, leading to better decisions because bad ideas will be exposed and discussed. Pressure to conform causes dissenters to fall in line with the group opinion. The asch conformity experiment showed how a test subject gave wrong answers to questions to avoid disagreeing with the group: group discussions can be less than satisfying when some group members dominate or withdraw.
