Anth 1101 - ecology, kinship, and cultural adaptation. A theory that the universe and especially living nature is correctly seen in terms of interacting wholes (as of living organisms) that are more than the mere sum of elementary particles. Very fertile land, much like a european climate (rain and dry seasons) Woman in charge of the house: balances power of men. Man: forever a member of mother"s house. Rules of inheritance: father"s property is divided equally between his houses, within houses, property is divided equally between [full] brothers, only the sons can inherit. Bridewealth: payment by groom or groom"s family to bride"s family for rights to marriage, sexual access, woman"s labor, children, etc. Marriage cattle is received from a daughter"s (or sister"s) marriage by her mother"s house. They are shared equally by the bride"s [full] brothers. Pater = father in the sense of the personal with the social responsibilities and obligations of fatherhood.
