THEO10001 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Mesoamerican Creation Myths, Homily
Document Summary
One main difference between the two creation accounts is in the second, there is no record of time and each part of creation is not separated by a day. However, in the first account, god spaced out his creation and kept a count of which day each piece was formed. The second major difference is while the first account recorded creation that happened all over the world, the second account focuses on mainly the features of one location, the garden of eden. Two qualities of humanity presented in the two creation stories are having dominion over other creation, and being fertile in order to multiply. Humanity is now inflicted with original sin and relationships between woman and man, child and parent, and people are now affected by tension. One concept ratzinger presents is the presentation of image of god in the second creation account.
