Related to difficulties in the mother-infant relationship. Those children who have a better relationship with their parents and who demonstrate more secure attachment patterns do not face a lot of these threats associated with failure to thrive. Can also be result of (very) early feeding problems, but if this is the case, it quickly resolves: pica: eating substance that are not food, such as hair, insects, or chips of paint.
