Document Summary

Raw scores are transformed into z-scores which tell us where the score is located relative to others. Standardisation is the conversion of raw scores into z-scores. In a positively skewed graph, median will have a negative z-score because mean is pulled towards the extremes. If =40, =6, find z-scores of x=36 and x=45. Extreme values can be identified easily as most scores are commonly between 2. 00 of the mean. Anything above or below can be considered extreme. Note: the standardisation of scores does not change the shape of the distribution or the location of x relative to others. To avoid negative numbers and decimals, z-scores can be used to create new distributions.
