Document Summary

2. 3 aggression: aggression: physical or verbal behavior that is meant to harm, hostile agg: springs from anger; goal is to get revenge or injure. Immediate; in heat of the moment: both types pretty even as cause for violence in society. Instrumental agg: means to some other end: after time; cold-blooded, direct vs indirect, direct is mostly physical violence while indirect can be verbal or social exclusions, ex: death penalty is instrumental and direct, explanations, biological. Instinct and evolutionary; innate and unlearned behavior: circular reasoning= no clear cause, mating behavior. Inhibition of both leads to more aggression: genetic influences, hereditary and neural sensitivity to aggressive cues, biochemical, alcohol, drugs, hormones, diet, frustration, blocking of goal-orientated behavior. Learn social behavior by observing and imitating and by being rewarded or punished: bobo-doll (bandura); kids watched beat up doll and did the same thing.
