MB 351 Lecture 56: 16.3 Direct Diseases Types
Document Summary
16. 3 direct diseases types: droplet, streptococcal disease, pyogenes, aka group a streptococci (gas) Infection occur if host defense are weakened or if new strain introduced: cause of strept throat. Infection process: carry lysogenic phage, release exotoxins that lyses rbcs, exotoxins recruit t cells to tissue and release cytokines, recruit macrophages and neutrophils, can cause severe infection, cellulitis. Skin infection in subcutaneous layers: necrotizing fasciitis. Flesh eating bacteria: cause pneumonia, very invasive. Lower resp: have capsule that prevents phagocytosis. Strong inflammatory resp: accumulation of fluid and phagocytes due to inflamm, both are treatable by antimicrobial agents but are resistant over 30% Spreads to other body parts: vaccines are rather weak, mycobacterium tuberculosis, cause tb. Lung infection: persistent cough, phlegm, chest, weight loss, aerosol droplet, types, primary, results from inhalation, causes formation of masses called activated macrophages due to immune resp, tubercles.
