Document Summary

Discovered mutant male fly w/ white eyes instead of red. Non-mutant type = wild type, in this case red eyes. Test cross take trait you know is dominant and test it. Sex-linked traits - alleles are on sex chromosomes (ex: female birds are less colorful) Sex determination in drosophila is based on # of x chromosomes. Sex determination in humans also based on presence of y chromosome. Certain genetic diseases affect males to a greater degree than females. Disease that affects the blood"s ability to clot. Ensures an equal expression of genes from sex chromosomes even though females have 2 x chromosomes and males only have 1. In each female cell, 1 x chromosome is inactivated and highly condensed into a barr body. Females heterozygous for genes on the x chromosome are genetic mosaics. Traits controlled by these genes do not follow the chromosomal theory of inheritance.
