Tumor/neoplasm: abnormal growth of cells, out of control. Benign: non-cancerous, divides slower compared to cancer cells, look similar to cell surrounding it. Malignant: cancerous, grow rapidly, spread to other tissues/organs, do not look like surrounding. Immunosuppressive medications (people who have an autoimmune problem) Depends on: location, size, how much of organ is affected, how much of tissue is affected, if metastasized, may appear in different parts of the body. Diagnostic imaging: radiography, ct, mri, ultrasonography. Surgery: removes tumor and perimeter skin, removes lymph nodes. Radiation: high energy rays to damage growth of cells, destroys healthy cells as well: side effects: hair loss, fatigue. Chemotherapy: systematic, designed to attack rapidly: side effects: vomiting, anorexia, hair loss, fatigue, anemia. Hormone therapy: use hormones to help prevent cancer cells from growing: ex: breast/prostate are examples. Immunotherapy: antibodies that give their immune system to fight off cancer.
