Document Summary
Your body will break down your bone to push calcium through your body when you are low in calcium. The average american breaks 2 bones in their life. Most commonly it is the forearm (radius or ulna), in elderly it is the pelvis. Bone makes up 18% of the weight of the body. Not the strongest substance in your body. Bones heal on their own, teeth don"t (that is why they are not bones) Certain bone cells that are responsible for building, certain bone cells that are responsible for breaking down. Become thicker and stronger with weight resistant exercise. Very very strong and hard to break. Hard and dense bone found on the end, with canals for blood vessels and nervous tissue. Has more holes in it, more porous, not as dense, not as strong. Fills the middle of the compact bone (makes up the end of the bone) Helps form new bone during growth or after a fracture.
