Ramadan: remembrance/celebrations of 1st revelation given to muhammad. fast during the day i. no smoking ii. no sex iii. **if you"re pregnant, sick, nursing, not healthy, you aren"t required to fast. Not just abstention, also can be something extra. Done to become closer to god, not because parents told you to. Beginning and ending of fast: eat and drink: hajj. Performed from the 8th to 12th days in the islamic calendar (dhu al-hijjah) Only have to go once to achieve hajj.
