Gave perspective to other euro countries that rebels have a chance w winning war. By 1778, french came to help rebels @ vf. Washington wrote to congress: plz send us food, clothing, and guns! ~ troops died from malnutrition, disease, and freezing to death. Under circumstances, many soldiers left--washington did not prosecute bc he understood why. Belief: ppl didn"t send help bc army was made up of poor, expendable ppl of society, so ppl w 11569 didn"t care. Washington originally opposed african americans enlisting in army. After hi casualties from valley forge, he lets aas enlist. Aas fought to get own liberty after war. Thousands of men/women, white/blacks, fought and died for american independence.
