Content (semantics)- meaning of what is conveyed. The process by which sensory input is transformed, reduced, elaborated, stored, recovered, and used. Includes: (guilford"s structure of intellect) recognizing & understanding (attention & perception) Memory convergent thinking divergent thinking evaluative thinking executive functioning. Point to objects or pictures named by clinician. Word frequency, semantic or acoustic similarity, parts of speech, referent ambiguity, auditory fidelity. Automatic speech (counting, alphabet, days of week, months, etc) Sampling communication involves presenting and observing combinations of stimulus-response items. Visual: objects, drawings, pictures, written words, sentences, paragraphs. Gestural: point, match, gesture, manipulate, follow commands. Standard materials/stimuli, instructions and cue procedures, scoring system, normative data, etc. Assess general language skills in all communication modalities.
