Document Summary

Mitosis- creates more daughter cells, giver you 2 genetically identical cells. Meiosis - creates more cells by division, gives you 4 more not genetically identical cells. Fertilization - fusion of haploid sex cells (one sperm one egg), 2 gametes. Gametes - sex cells (ex. sperm and egg) Zygote - product of fertilization, the first diploid cell. Haploid - one single set of chromosomes, created through meiosis, the gametes. Diploid - a double set of chromosomes, one set from male one from female. Every life cycle will have fertilization and meiosis, always looks for these when trying to understand a life cycle. *sporic meiosis - the plant life cycle (the highly used life cycle in class) Have sex cells that can divide through mitosis* Archegonium is female and turns into the egg.
