Psychosis: mental condition, loss of contact with reality. - delusions (a false belief that someone has) and hallucinations (a false sensory perception seeing or hearing things that others do not) these by themselves does not always mean psychotic disorder. Non-psychotic disorder psychotic symptoms: other psychological disorders, physical/medical condition, no psychological disorder. What is schizophrenia: severe mental disorder, main feature = disorganization. Can be seen in their thinking, behavior, and perception of the world: chronic, severe impairment. Dementia vs. schizophrenia: schizophrenia diagnosis > 100 y/o. Kraepelin & bleuler: dementia praecox perceptual/cognitive problems, early life onset, schizophrenia split mind. What schizophrenia is not: schizophrenia is not dissociative identity disorder (i. e. , multiple personality disorder, did: distinct personalities, can interact appropriately with environment, split between personalities, schizophrenia: 1 personality, inability to perceive environment appropriately, split between thoughts and feelings. Positive symptoms: behaviors most often associated with disorder.
