PSY 236 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Confirmatory Factor Analysis, Factor Analysis, Data Mining
Document Summary
18,000 personality terms in the english language, 6,000 are trait related. Administer a large number of trait-relevant questions to a very large number of people. Some sample items - rate on a 5 point scale from very accurate to inaccurate. Each answer includes some true score and some error. An analysis of the patterns of correlations among items (questions) on a test. Factor analysis attempts to identify underlying variables, or factors, that explain the pattern of correlations within a set of observed variables. What questions go with other questions - which responses correlate with other responses. Factor loadings - correlation between measured variable and latent factor. Confirmatory - do measured variables fit a predicted factor structure. 5 factors (latent constructs - explaining the correlation among the facets) Factors correlated most highly with their facets and items within their facets; should be low correlation between factors. 6 facets per factor (total of 30 facets)
