Freedman - classic outline of what is neccs easy for an instance of patient consent count as truly informed consent. In order to be valid consent must be informed, a competent person, and voluntary. Would be allowed to give info that would push for consent selectively variable. Have to push for fully informing everything. Shows there is a contradiction in the theory. Never truly possible to give full informed consent. There is no end to fully informed consent. Relevant info is what would affect their decision whether to consent. Disagrees with some idea about responsible consent. To be valid a choice must be responsible. But saying this presupposed we have standards for saying when a choice is responsible. But the patient will say that their own choice is responsible. It should be the person held accountable not the choice. Note that this doesn"t guarantee that the choice is responsible. Capable of making otu a life plan.
