Was not concerned with the after-life in heaven or hell (differed from medieval period) They were devout christians but they were captivated by the cultures of ancient. Subjects were drawn from classical literature and mythology. They depicted the nude human body but it was depicted as an object of shame and concealment during the middle ages. Medieval artists had been more concerned with religious symbolism than lifelike representation.
