HST 203 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Emil Julius Gumbel, Left Opposition, Tenderly
Document Summary
First published in vier jahre politischer mord (berlin: verlag der neuen gesellschaft, 1922), 145- Anton kaes, martin jay and edward dimendberg, eds. , the weimar republic sourcebook (berkeley: university of california press, 1994), pp. The following lines report on the political murders that have occurred in germany since november 9, 1918. The murders committed by the left and by the right are equally represented. A case has been taken up when it concerned a premeditated, illegal killing of a well-known german by another german for domestic political motives, whereby the incident is characterized not as mass action but as an individual deed. In the selection of cases i have proceeded much more cautiously in the murders by the right than of those by the left. I have therefore included several cases of the left which had more of the character of riots than of political murders.
