PSY 111 Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Drools, Mnemonic, Operant Conditioning
Document Summary
Classical: pair a neutral stimulus with a biological relevant stimulus. Ex: dog drools at sight of food, but no response to a bell; whistle and bell makes dog salivate, then finally just the whistle makes the dog salivate. Operant: similar to classical, but the behavior comes first. Ex: positive(add something)/negative(take something away) punishment(decrease behavior) and positive/negative reinforcement(increase behavior) Rehearse repeatedly, mnemonic devices, sleep, retrieval cues, minimize interference. Describe how shaping might be used to form complex behaviors. If you keep giving rewards for small things and then build up those movements while still giving treats can form complex behaviors by using behavior shaping. Describe the bobo doll experiment and observational learning. Bobo doll experiment: studied children"s behavior after watching an adult be aggressive towards a bobo doll and observed the child"s behavior after seeing the adult get rewarded, punished, or experience no consequence for beating up the doll.
