By early to mid 20th century photojournalism was an integral part of reporting. Now available to everyone who has a smartphone. Understand and be able to apply basic concepts of photography. Composition - how things are arranged in the frame. Emphasis and viewer direction through lighting and creative use of focus. Action - depiction of movement generates interest. Can be found in hands, arms, feet, legs, etc. Showing things most people don"t get to see. What is its relationship to the story. Reinforce, amplify or highlight information from the story. Decision to publish is an editorial decision. Pictures can be taken out of context. Viewer doesn"t see what happened before or after picture was taken.
