Why i see what i see and think what i think and hear what i hear. Sperber and wilson co-wrote the book, meaning and relevance: once meaning is established, processing is cut off. Relevance theory is about filling in the blanks: we fill in the blanks when we talk to people and see things, we know we have a filter, fill in the blanks based on experiences. Personal experiences shape the way we view things: not solely textual, also visual. Videos, images, etc: part of the search for meaning. More of a social component to symbolic interactionism. More of a language based component to theory of relevance. When we communicate, we mean much more than the literal meaning of what we say to others. How we reason about what people mean from what they say . How do we use theory of relevance: in communications. Print ads: rich with visuals that permeate the field in almost every way imaginable.
