William frey spent 15 years studying tears and found: Only humans cry emotionally, other animals only cry to lubricate eyes. Emotional tears are different than tears to lubricate and cleanse eyes: contain toxic stress induced biological byproducts, stress lowered when byproducts were eliminated, suppressing tears increases stress. Tears are an extremely effective method of communication, and can elicit sympathy much faster than any other means. Clinical depression is a disease that is caused by a chemical imbalance, hormone imbalance, and/or genetic conditions. Closely tied to dealing with stress related events. Certain nt in brain become imbalanced (serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine) Depression symptoms: markedly diminished interest or pleasure in all, or almost all, activities most of the day, nearly every day, significant weight loss when not dieting or weight gain or decrease or increase in appetite nearly every day. People with undiagnosed depression may self- medicate using alcohol or drugs.
