Document Summary

1. ) (30 points) you are standing in a very flat patch of forest, then you start to hike. As you move forward you first observe a high density of shrubs in the understory, and an overstory dominated by broad-leaf trees. You climb higher up this slope and the forest eventually becomes comprised of only need-leaf trees and there are no shrubs in the understory. A niche includes all of the abiotic, nonliving, and biotic, living resources an organism uses. There are abiotic thresholds which affect what species and can inhabit the are and the specie"s population density. These limiting factors can include water, air, access to sunlight, or space. Shrubs need access to sunlight but are able to survive in relatively shaded regions such as the flat understory under the high density of broad-leaf trees. As you move up the mountain, the greenery changes into broad-leaf trees which need a significant amount of water and sunlight access.
