Document Summary

Photosynthesis is broken into two phases-a light reactions- (thylakoid membrane) produce atp and nadph- carries higher energy electrons than nadh: purpose of light reactions- allow calvin cycle to run, light reactions need water(electrons), light, and gives off oxygen. Calvin cycle-(stroma of chloroplast) main product is glyceraldehyde 3phospate: has three phases and uses co2 and gives of glyceraldehyde 3phosphate. Pigments are good at absorbing energy of light- light hits pigment molecule- molecule is excited- electrons jump up a level (more energy) jump back down and release energy- energy moves fromone pigment molecule to another. Energy is transferred not electrons (electrons move in each individual atom, but do not move from atom to atom) Absorb energy of light- package it into electrons- electron energy is used to create atp. Objective- explain how the energy of the sun is used to create atp during photosynthesis. Photosystem 2 is connected to a short electron transport chain.
