Document Summary

All biological phenomena (thoughts, emotions, memory, actions) can be explained mechanistically, through chemistry. Objective- define basic terms regarding matter and list properties of the 3 major subatomic particles. Matter- anything that has a mass and takes up space. Element- a substance that cannot be broken down to other substances by chemical reactions (physical reaction scan break them down) Atom- the smallest unit of an elemental substance that still retains the properties of an element. Atomic mass can change due to isotopes (change in neutrons) * Trace elements: boron, chromium, cobalt, iodine, iron, copper, zinc, manganese. Objective- describe uses of radioactive isotopes in research and medicine. Track where radiation might be whether it be in a cell or whole body (cancer) At what rate do we grow? (37degrees celsius) Quantifying and scintillator machine= look at flashes/second after a day of exposing cells to radiation.
