Empathy- understanding someone"s problem, trying to put yourself in the other person"s shoes. In studying religion, scholars describe, analyze, and attempt to be empathetic. A group of blind men touch an elephant, they all touch different parts of the elephant and believe it is different objects. Coming from an environment where the whole community is one religion, a person would only know and believe that religion. Seeing that other people have different views may be unsettling. Ordinary is more or less synonymous with culture. Extraordinary helps people understand beyond everyday culture and concerns. Creed - explanations of the meaning of human life, set of beliefs/teachings. Code - rules that govern everyday behavior. Community - groups of people formally/informally bounded by the previous 3 c"s.
