German jews want civic and political emancipation. Need to know do-er, object and kind of emancipation. Political emancipation: emancipation of state from religion. Secularization of the state: religion goes from public to private law. Sphere of civil society --> sphere of egoism. Religion used to be foundation for community, but now foundation for exclusion. Political: freedoms, civil rights, rights of a citizen. Rights of a member of civil society (separate from the rest): equality, liberty, security, property. Liberty: man can do anything that doesn"t hurt other people. Property: an individual can enjoy and/or dispose of his own things from what he earned. Equality: each person is self-sufficient, law applied in the same way. Security: protection by society to each member and his rights and property. We are not free because of religion-- give up religion and form secular state (to all religions) Marx doesn"t agree with bauer (part on p 135)
