Goals of set design: telling the story: facilitating dramatic action. Provide a playable space for the actors to perform according to: goals of set design- form. Providing an environment that embodies the characters" lives set expresses the nature of the environment that plays a role in shaping the drama: creating mood. Design captures the tone of the play/performance: expressing the director"s concept. Presenting a visual metaphor for the director"s vision. Set designer"s process: collaboration, discussion, evolution: script analysis, research-understanding the director"s vision, sketches and initial renderings. Storyboards if design includes set changes . sketch out every scene and where everything will be and how it will look: building a scale model. A test and a 3-d visualization of set for the collaborator"s to adjust accordingly: working drawings and ground plan. Like a blue print drafting is employed. Set designer"s process continued: building the set, adjusting the set, dressing the set-adding the details and little touches to make it look more real.
