Deviance = violation of the social norm. Social norm = tells us what we can and cannot do. Standards of public behavior: folkways = observed edicit, mores = more serious norms, similar to morals. Taboos = special type of mores, the things we do not want to think about (example: incest) * norms are relative: example: concept of homicide not all forms of homicide are a murder. * positive = a smile, a wave or saying yeah good. * negative = saying, i don"t like this.
