According to nsdhu 9% of the population age 12 or older use illicit drugs every year, half of them once a month. Although drug use is not limited to one particular class, serious drug problem tend to be concentrated among lower class drug abusers. Heroin and crack have fast rates of addiction. Young adults 18 to 25 have highest rate. Overall men are more likely than women to be illegal drug user. Rates of past month use 11. 2 for men and 6. 8 for women. The gender difference of course depends on the drug. Men also more likely than women to abuse drugs.
