Functionalist view of family: nuclear family is universal. 3rd time from the first child begins school till they reaches the teens. focus on education & socialization of child 4th fam. w/adolescents or teens. Annual divorce rate(1. 4%) & lifetime rate (45-50%). these are becoming less relevant b/c a lot of ppl don"t marry, they just live together & then divorce . Baby boom: after baby boom, divorce rates went down.
