Document Summary

Ideology: belief of where a person thinks the government should intervene essentially. Liberal: freedom social issues, involvement in economic issues. Libertarian: freedom for both social and economic issues. Populist: involvement in both economic and social issues: there are caveats, conservatives are not in favor of intervention for gun control, they are for freedom even though it"s a social issue, very general. Is it the economy stupid? : kramer (1971) first demonstrated an empirical link between economic performance and election outcomes. He looked at the period from 1896 to 1964 and found a strong relationship between improvements in real income and the incumbent party"s share of the two party congressional vote. According to anthony downs and rational choice, it would be more self interested: pocketbook versus sociotropic voting. Per capita income: people do not tend to vote their own pocketbook, but rather, look at the state of the national economy.
