Both classroom teachers and coaches are interesting in improving students performance. Both assess skills-prescribe ways of improving those skills. Potential conflict: favoritism in class room, failing a kid who won"t be able to play. Job title: most energy goes to coaching, less energy goes to their classes. In charge of physical training- understand physical demands of their sport. Know specific sport skills for your sport. Cross training, strength training, biomechanics, diet and nutrition. Modern day training techniques: intensity, volume, specificity. What works best for your team: you adjust to players skills or do players fit into your system. Is your team mentally tough: what makes them tough, past experiences, way they handle adversity, able to move on from something that is bad (dropped pass) They accomplish 2 things: motivated and mentally tough themselves, good role model, excellent trainers who teach how to motivate and be mentally tough.
