Slavery and racism in europe and england: slavery is an old ancient institution that predates the bible. It has existed in every society: what"s different about slavery in the western hemisphere, it becomes tied to race. In europe, (minus spain & portugal) had died out in europe: early european slaves came from the slavic, russia, eastern europe, the word slave comes from the name slavic because someone mispronounced the words. In the 1400s, the portuguese began taking slaves from africa. Most were captured by prince henry along the coasts: the portuguese set up factories on the african coast, where they"d exchange. European goods for humans: a portuguese merchant would unload his cargo, and an african warlord would show up w/slaves. In africa, is a warlord and his warriors go attack the next village and win, the winners would automatically take a handful of captives.
