Mussolini gains power: decides to rig elections so his party gains more power, a socialist speaks out and the black shirts kidnap & kill him, after, mussolini shuts down govt and becomes dictator in 1925. Totalitarianism: aims for total political control over all aspects of life. Mussolini, the political and social doctrine of fascism, 1932. Generally anti-church: it competes for loyalties. Nazism (aka national socialsism): rise to power: nazis & communists gain votes during depression, people voted for the nazis only bc hitler seemed to be able to revive the economy.
