Geography: the study of spatial distribution of phenomena. Four connected parts of the earth system: (1). Scientific method: image of the real world, hypothesis, testing, theory. Systems theory: group of broad, abstract concepts of how things work. Starts out with the basic fundamental idea of a system. System - set of objects and their attributes that are linked together by flows of matter and energy. Budget - inputs - outputs = change in storage. If inputs are smaller than outputs, negative budget. If inputs are larger than outputs, positive budget. Systems with positive or negative budgets cannot function. Lag time - time difference between change and response. Ducks having babies, increasing population, increased population has babies, continues growing population until world has too many ducks.
