Document Summary
What"s not supernatural- one half of a dichotomy. What humans haven"t constructed or disturbed (how most people use the word) Climate; oil; water supply; mineral resources; terrain features, etc. Language; agricultural features; stadiums; billboards; sidewalks; canals, etc. Allows us to locate points on a sphere. For absolute location we need a system of reference. Grid system- a set if imaginary lines drawn across the face of the earth. Key components- north and south poles; equator; prime meridian. Endpoints of the axis about which the earth spins (rotates) Line that encircles the globe halfway between the poles and perpendicular to the axis. The poles and equator are given by nature. The poles at 90 n and 90 s are points. Angular distance north or south of the equator. A person directly south of her stands at 20 n lat. A person directly south of her stands at 30 s lat. 30 n to 0, = 0 to 30 s = 60.
