Laws of thermodynamics: first law: energy can be neither created nor destroyed, only converted from one form to another, second law: when converting energy from one form to another the amount of useful energy decreases. Free energy and chemical reactions: spontaneous: release free energy (exergonic, delta g = , non-spontaneous: require free energy (endergonic, delta g = , spontaneity doesn"t say anything about the speed of reaction.
