Chapter 1 mass communication, culture and media literacy. We covered some of this material in class, but we didn"t spend any time on the section scope and nature of mass media, pgs. A note on media literacy chapter 1 lists eight characteristics of media literacy, Be prepared to answer questions about these two sections/areas in addition to what overlapped with class discussions/materials. pg. 21-22, under the heading elements of media literacy. The language used for these characteristics is different than the six principles of media literacy and the five tools of media literacy that we discussed in class. To help avoid confusion, on the test i will use the language we used/applied/discussed in class (six principles/five tools). So, read over this section, but when it comes to defining principles of media literacy for the exam i will use the language from class and not the language from the eight characteristics in the textbook.
