Jean baptiste lamarck (1744-1829: zoologist genius, first individual to propose that species change over time and provided mechanism to explain how species change over time, the theory of the inheritance of acquired characteristics. --the theory of one inheriting characteristics from the changes in the giraffes- they are scavengers so stretching the necks becomes changes and mammals have 7 cervical vertibre (besides sloths and a few others) the offspring will have longer necks. After the cataclysmic events subsided, the area was repopulated by migration of similar looking but not identical (to the extinct) species from neighboring areas. Charles lyell (1797-1875: theory of uniformitarianism, forces acting today to shape the earth are the same forces that acted in the past. Thomas malthur (1766-1854: priciple of population, population size has the possibility of increasing over time. So at some point in time they will meet and when they do the populations will stop growing and potentially cause war and famine.
