Document Summary

Supporter of the principle of fixity of species. Species are immutable, and unchangeable after their creation species were fixed in their characteristics. Also called the theory of use and disuse. These needs are satisfied by modification of existing organs or production of new organs. Continued use of organs leads to increase in their functional capability (lack of use leads to degeneration leads to potential loss) The changes that occur during one"s lifetime are inheritable by offspring. In the past there was a series of violent geological and climatic changes that lead to the extinction of species in the affected areas. Following the cataclysm species from neighboring unaffected areas would migrate to that area and repopulate the area. The species that came in were similar to those that went extinct but not identical.
