Social cognition- beliefs: beliefs about the consequence of a given behaviour(s, beliefs are acquired socially , beliefs are rational . Subjective norm- attitudes of people around you can work both ways, e. g. wanting to quit smoking because your friends did or not wanting to quit to defy people. No way of measuring how much control you actually have- hence perceived behavioural control. Use outlying factors to determine behaviour based on differing attitudes, norms and control- e. g. men and women have different attitudes therefore behave differently. Ratings scales used to assess: attitudes: beliefs about value and expectancy of multiple outcomes of the target behaviour (value expectancy) Subjective norms: beliefs about the value and expectancy of other people"s approval of behaviour (beliefs about others attitudes motivation to comply: perceived behavioural control: beliefs about being able to control the behaviour.
