Document Summary

The human body uses sensory (afferent) information to regulate movements. > information about state of environment, state of body or about the state of the body with respect to the environment. Depends heavily on the involvement of particular types of sensory information as it executes its function. Important in many situations, f. e. those that require a system to control itself for long periods of time. First input about the system"s goal is provided to a reference mechanism. Then the reference mechanism samples the environment that it is attempting to control -> feedback. Reference mechanism then compares the value of the goal to that of the sample obtained from the environment and an error is computed -> difference between the two states. The error is information that is passed to an executive level, where decisions are made about how to reduce the error.
