The anatomy behind cognitive control: habit stimulus-driven & automatic triggered simply by external cues, context rapid response, based on well-learned associations. Everything in front of motor cortex (pmc & smc) Expanded compared to other primate species -> bigger white matter, different interconnections. From anterior to posterior: frontral pole (fp) goal related, ventromedial prefrontal cortex/ Orbitofrontal (ofc) control monitoring: lateral prefrontal cortex (lpfc) goal oriented behavior, medial frontal cortex (mfc) guiding & monitoring behavior. Pfc matures late in development -> cognitive control processes acquired late.
