Main difference: form of product cannot be broken down into discrete units (e. g. yarns & fabric, food products, chemical products) Job shops: type of manufacturing process used to make wide variety of highly customized products in quantities as small as one. Characterized by general-purpose equipment & broadly skilled workers (not standardized) Fixed position layout: position of the product, due to size or other constraints, is fixed. Materials, equipment, and workers and transported to and from the product. Hybrid manufacturing: not all manufacturing processes fall clearly into the above categories.
