Main rule = damage must be borne by the person who suffered it in the first place. 2 exceptions = fault liability and strict liability. Governed by the demands of 2 kinds of justice: corrective and distributive: corrective. Damage must be remedied, that is, the person who suffered the damage must be brought to the same position he or she was in before the damage occurred.
