Purpose of research: investigate role of metaphor in reasoning about domain of societal importance: social policy on crime whether different metaphors lead people to reason differently and in turn leads them to propose different solutions. Further illuminate mechanisms through which metaphors can shape understanding and reasoning. Focus on two contrasting metaphors: crime as virus and crime as beast.
