Document Summary

Development concerns all the physical and psychological changes that an individual undergoes in a lifetime. Developmental psychology is a multidisciplinary study because you are interested in the change of many things. Middle childhood: from 6 to 11 years. You can look at the physical development (hardware) brain and body development in particular. The foetus has a huge head compared to the body and the head seems to get smaller and smaller as we progress through development and the relative size of the body increases. This is why the physical development is said to be in cephalocaudal direction (head downward) and in proximodistal direction (centre outward). Next week"s lecture is about brain development! You can look at the cognitive development (software) functional brain development (i. e. perceptual, emotional, language, and social and moral development). Cognitive development theories are described in the sections below (piaget and vygotsky). Active vs passive actively seeking for knowledge, passive is that you just absorb knowledge.
